County warns of increased truck traffic Monday

SANDOVAL COUNTY — Major roadways in the county could have more trucks on them than usual in the coming weeks.

Sandoval County officials posted a notice on social media stating Paseo Del Volcan, US-550, Highway 4, Highway 290 and Ponderosa Pond will be affected.

“As part of the Ponderosa Woods Stream Restoration Project now underway near Ponderosa, NM, please be advised that beginning Monday, Nov. 17, 2025, there will be increased truck traffic along this identified route,” the notice states.

The trucks are relocating sediment from Ponderosa to the county landfill to expand the pond’s capacity, it added.

Traffic is expected to last until about the end of the year. Heavy traffic is expected in the next few weeks, then there will be intermittent activity after that.

The county stated it will provide updates, but if people have questions they are encouraged to contact emergency manager Dan Heerding at 505-934-3222.
