Daniel J. Beaman was hired by Sandoval County as director of Planning and Zoning on De. 7.

“As the fastest-growing county in New Mexico, prudent oversight in combination with a vision for the future is critical for both the short-term and long-term goals of the county’s landscape and business scape. Dan Beaman brings the required experience and expertise in local government planning and zoning and economic development to the county as we continue to sustain and develop our residential, commercial, and industrial areas,” County Manager Wayne Johnson said.

All zoning code enforcement, land use, subdivision platting and development review activities in the unincorporated areas of the county are handled by Planning and Zoning. The department also handles the real property section, which manages all jurisdictional real estate activities and the Geographic Information Systems section, which is responsible for mapping products and assigning addresses to properties.

Most recently, Beaman worked at Bernalillo County for more than 21 years. His last position was as a special projects coordinator for economic development. There, his focus was zoning and entitlement, land development, special permitting and other land-use issues.

Before that, he held positions of increasing responsibility in that county’s Planning and Zoning department. While serving in the Air Force, Beaman worked in information management. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of New Mexico with concentrations in geography, political science and community and regional planning.

Beaman and his wife live in north-central New Mexico.
