RIO RANCHO — A Cleveland High School senior is headed to Washington, D.C., in March with more than 100 other students nationwide to study under a prestigious U.S. Senate program.
Faith Young will travel to the nation's capital March 7-14 for the U.S. Senate Youth Program, according to a news release. The program involves "an intensive week-long study of the federal government," including the chance to meet New Mexico U.S. Sens. Ben Ray Luján and Martin Heinrich, a U.S. Supreme Court justice and President Donald Trump, the release said.
Young will represent New Mexico along with a Las Cruces student — just part of the 104-student delegation, with two students from each state, the District of Columbia and the Department of Defense Education Activity, according to the release.
Young serves many positions at Cleveland, including, senior class secretary, president of the National Honor Society and coach of the speech and debate team. Other accolades include Girls Nation senator and governor and Sandoval County junior treasurer.
Following high school, Young wants to work in politics before pursuing law school.
