Candidates file in 2025 regular local election

SANDOVAL COUNTY — The 2025 regular local election in Sandoval County has its filed candidates after the close of filing day at 5 p.m. Aug. 26.

The deadline for any filers to drop out and for write-in candidates is Sept. 2. So far, every seat on the ballot has at least one person filed.

This year, there are two mayor seats up for grabs in the county: Corrales and San Ysidro. Corrales sees current Mayor James Fahey Jr. filing re-election with welcomes Bob Eichhorst and Fredrick Hashimoto challenging. The only filer for San Ysidro was incumbent Mayor Steve Lucero.

Corrales also has three council positions up for election in districts one, three and four, each with one filer only: current councilors Rick Miera, Mel Knight and John Alsobrook II.

The city of Rio Rancho municipal election is held in March, which includes city councilors and the mayor.

Rio Rancho will, however, get to vote for school board members in districts three and five. District three’s only filer is Michael Berry. The seat is currently held by board Vice President Jeffery Morgan. District five has three filers: Donna Tillman, Quinton Middleton and Rebecca Murray.

The Bernalillo school board also had to seats up for election in districts two and three. Michael Archibeque is the only filer for three, while John Gurule, Sheldon Crespin and Olivia Calabaza filed for two.
