BREAKING: New RRPS superintendent named
Unanimous decision by school board makes Robert "Robby" Dodd only second leader in district's 31-year history
RIO RANCHO — Robert "Robby" Dodd been named the new superintendent of Rio Rancho Public Schools.
The decision came Wednesday evening during a public meeting, when the five-member RRPS Board of Education unanimously voted to make its selection and approve Dodd's contract.
Dodd was one of three finalists who visited Rio Rancho earlier this week to meet with school district stakeholders and community members. The other finalists were Todd Resch, RRPS executive director of athletics, and Heather Sánchez, chief operating officer of Bellevue (Washington) School District.
“I am deeply honored that the Board of Education has named me the next superintendent of Rio Rancho Public Schools,” Dodd said. “This district’s success is rooted in an extraordinary 31-year legacy under Dr. Sue Cleveland, and I am committed to honoring that past while working closely with her to ensure a smooth, thoughtful transition. I look forward to listening, learning and partnering with the Rio Rancho community as we invent the future so every graduate is prepared for what lies ahead.”
The board's decision caps a national search that began in October, following the announcement that Dr. Sue Cleveland, the school district's only superintendent, would step down from her role after 31 years on the job.
“Selecting our next superintendent is both an exciting and deeply meaningful moment for our district,” said Amanda Galbraith, president of the Rio Rancho Public Schools Board of Education. “After 31 years of consistent leadership from Dr. Cleveland, the board approached this decision with great care. Dr. Dodd brings the vision, experience, and student-centered focus needed to honor our district’s legacy while confidently leading us into the future.”
This is a breaking story and more information will be provided at the conclusion of the school board meeting.
