RIO RANCHO (Feb. 15) — It was a big weekend for bowlers in the Rio Rancho area. Tenpins & More announced several pieces of news, while Starlight Lanes at Santa Ana Star Casino opened registration for League Play.

Doubles Marathon Series at Tenpins & More

The Doubles Marathon Series kicked off at Tenpins & More this weekend and Monica Redman and Ward Stoffer emerged as the big winners.

The pair went 7-1 in match-play, winning their matches by an average of 35 pins. Redman averaged 180.5, while Stoffer averaged 191.7, both above their career averages.

“It was their consistent scoring that won them the event, with game winning scores ranging from 401 and 359,” said Tenpins & More owner Steve Mackie.

The next three spots were neck-and-neck as they went into a playoff for the next places on the medal stand. Robin Prioleau, the Albuquerque area “Woman Bowler-of-the-Year”, achieved a personal best 1,558 in six games. Partner Jon Arevalo averaged 239.5 and the pair took second place.

Third place went to Trent Irwin and Joseph LaPointe, followed by Cameron and Haskell Lee.

According to Mackie, Will Hall and Joseph Paterson (fifth place), Land and Josh Matthies (sixth), Kimble Platz and Steve Quintana (seventh), and Brian Bledsoe and Jeremiah Martin (eighth) rounded out the top eight teams.

More at Tenpins & More

They’re coming. They’re coming from Arizona, from Texas, from Colorado. And they’re all coming here, to Rio Rancho.

Why? Because the Junior Bowlers Tour double-header is rolling this weekend at Tenpins & More.

More than one hundred and sixty bowlers will hit the lanes this weekend starting at 9 a.m. on Feb. 22 and concluding with singles play on Sunday, Feb. 23.

On Mar. 2, the NM Central Tournament Series makes its first stop at Rio Rancho in the “Dual Pattern Challenge”.

According to Mackie, “In this unique event, the left lane and right lane of each pair of lanes has a completely different oil pattern laid down, requiring increased concentration and careful ball selection to be able to score well.”

The grand prize is $1,500, making this the largest monetary payout for a bowling tournament in the state outside of the New Mexico Open tournament.

Starlight Lanes opens league play

Starlight Lanes at Santa Ana Star Casino will be hosting adult and youth bowling leagues starting Feb. 25. The league will last for 10 weeks and games will take place on Tuesday nights. This is a USBC sanctioned event. Registration is now open.
