The city of Rio Rancho added some projects to the Infrastructure and Capital Improvement Plan (ICIP) for fiscal years 2024-29. and the Rio Rancho Governing Body approved those changes at its Jan. 25 meeting.

The meeting’s agenda identifies Westside Boulevard as a “principal arterial” that has seen an increasing amount of traffic due to new developments, including The Village. The final plat for The Village in November 2022 created 26 tracts for commercial use.

“Since then, multiple site plans for commercial developments in this area have been heard and approved by the Governing Body, and interest has been steady for new development,” the meeting agenda reads.

It adds that a site plan for a 126-unit build-to-rent residential development was approved by the governing body on Oct. 27, 2022. This development will be constructed in the near future.

“To accommodate for additional traffic on Westside Blvd. SE and Trail Side Rd SE, adjacent to the development, the (right)-turn lane will be necessary … in order to accommodate the increase in traffic that these new developments will impose, and will improve accessibility to these businesses and surrounding properties,” the agenda states.

The 2024-29 ICIP was adopted by the governing body May 25, 2023.

As part of the approved ICIP, and in accordance with the City’s Impact Fee Capital Improvement Policy, a city IFCIP is included and approved with the ICIP.
