Friends & Lovers Balloon Rally was held in Rio Rancho over Valentine's Day weekend. Though weather conditions prevented flights on Saturday, pilots were cleared for takeoff Sunday morning, launching from several locations in Rio Rancho, including Cabezon Park, where many of the phots in this gallery were taken. About 75 pilots registered for the annual event, hosted by the all-volunteer organization of the Albuquerque Aerostat Ascension Association (Quad A). In addition to flying, Sunday morning also brought surprise proposal inside a balloon envelope in keeping with the theme of the event that is always scheduled close to — or, this year, on — Valentine's Day.
