Hundreds turn out for Mariposa Harvest Festival
RIO RANCO — Mariposa Park was buzzing with activity Saturday, August 23, as the neighborhood association hosted its annual Harvest Festival.
Dave Garcia, part of the planning committee, said 55 vendors, 47 volunteers and 1,200 visitors participated in the event this year.
“One of the highlights this year was the addition of Tamaya Horse Rescue,” he said. “Both children and adults enjoyed seeing the horses and learning more about their mission.”
The dozens of booths lined up throughout the park included many artists, local politicians, those with services for homeowners, retailers, animal rescue organizations, food trucks and more. Additionally, the Artists of Mariposa were set up in the community center, and a live DJ provided background music throughout the day.
There were also lawn games and arts and crafts projects set up in the parks pavilion that drew participants all day.
Fran Pawlak, executive director of the Mariposa Community Association, noted how the neighborhood banded together in order to get the event organized.
“I could not be prouder of the homeowners that gathered weekly for the past two months to plan and execute an event of this magnitude,” she said.
She noted that the approximately dozen homeowners that collaborated weekly were all volunteer homeowners in the community, and that more than 45 volunteer homeowners assisted during the event.
“I can’t wait to see what they do moving forward,” Pawlak said. “What a beautiful place to call home in so many ways.”
