Donated books program helps keep Placitas library going

PLACITAS — Placitas Community Library is in need of donated books and is asking the community for help.
PCL is a nonprofit organization with two part-time employees and 100 volunteers. Since Placitas is not a city, the library does not receive municipal funding, so it relies on individual donors and donations.
“We only get funding through state level and federal level grants,” said Sherri Streicher, a co-manager of the Placitas Community Library Donated Books Team along with Amy Wilkins.
Proceeds from all book sales benefit library programs and operating expenses.
“It helps us provide materials and keep things going here,” Streicher said.
The donated books will go to various places, including the library collection, Amazon, Abe Books or end up in the lobby for sale.
PCL is also offering book donation pickups for large collections or for those who have difficulty taking the books to the library. If you need to schedule a pickup, call the library at 505-867-335 or email pclbooks@yahoo.com.
The library is located at 453 Highway 165, Placitas.
