Corrales Council approves opt-in to 2025 election
CORRALES — The Corrales Governing Body opted into the 2025 regular local election at the June 10 meeting, prompting some discussion about possible election methods for the village.
Corrales’ March 2022 mayoral election saw 2,600 people vote, making up 26% of all registered voters, according to Village Clerk Melanie Romero.
She added the 2024 election, with judge and council members on the ballot, saw about 1,800 people vote.
Councilor Zachary Burkett entertained the idea of rank voting, which allows constituents to rank candidates by preference. However, Mayor Jim Fahey said that given the fact that not many people run for office, rank voting isn’t something that would apply to Corrales.
“I mean, we can talk about it, sure, but I’m not sure it’d be worth all the time and effort involved,” Fahey said.
The councilors also discussed having the municipal league talk with them about districting.
Any approved changes wouldn’t happen until the 2027 election.
