Art gallery opens in Corrales
CORRALES — There’s a new gallery in the village.
Art Scape owners Wendy FitzPatrick and Lauren Deyo have moved into Inhabit Gallerie’s old spot. Inhabit now resides across the Del Rio Plaza from Art Scape next to Indigo House. Art Scape celebrated the opening on Aug. 5.
“I have had a gallery the last almost four years down the road called Crazy Essence, and it was just time for a change,” FitzPatrick said.
Despite being adjacent to another art gallery, FitzPatrick and Deyo said there is no competition because the galleries offer different exhibits and local gifts.
“We’re all very supportive of one another,” they said.
Another confidence builder for them is that almost all of the businesses in the plaza are women-owned, according to Deyo.
Deyo talked more about the partnership’s beginnings.
“It’s been 11 years for me to get to this place and have this gallery. I met my partner, Wendy FitzPatrick, a few years ago through the Corrales Society of Artists. She hosted me for two years in her shop, and we became friends,” she said.
They had heard of the opening space where Inhabit Galerie used to be and jumped at the opportunity.
“We looked at it. We sat and discussed it, and we told him the same day we’ll take it,” FitzPatrick said.
Inside the gallery, both owners’ works are on display. Deyo works in abstract painting, and FitzPatrick works with glass painting. They also display and sell local artists’ works.
Deyo also announced there will be a block party in the plaza Sept. 24 with live music and food.
