Bernalillo's Kylee Herrera signs letter of intent to play for Lamar
Bernalillo softball player Kylee Herrera signs her letter of intent to play softball at Lamar.
BERNALILLO — Bernalillo Spartan athlete Kylee Herrera signed her letter of intent to play softball at Lamar Community College Nov. 18 inside the Bernalillo High School gymnasium.
“Kylee is the epitome of a student-athlete. She takes care of business on and off the field. She has been a detrimental part of laying the bricks of our Spartan program. She is a force in the box and a wall on the field,” softball head coach Marissa Valencia said.
“I strongly believe she will add to the positive culture at Lamar and make a difference in their program.”
Herrera has been a varsity softball player since her eighth-grade year and also plays on the varsity basketball team.
“We are extremely proud of Kylee. She has always been very determined to go on and play college softball. We look forward to seeing her success at Lamar,” Bernalillo basketball head coach Ashley Duran said. “As focused as she always was with softball, she still found time to be a part of our basketball program. Her energy and personality brings so much to our team.”
Last season, Herrera had a batting average of .574 along with 35 RBIs and seven home runs. Herrera also had a .953 fielding percentage.
During her years with the Spartans softball program, the team has had three state playoff appearances, two district runner-up titles, and a district title that came in spring 2024.
Herrera is the fourth Spartan to sign a letter of intent to play at the next level. Other Spartans signing in 2025 include Aleah Madrid (Otero college), Uriel Castro (ENMU) and Gabriel Trujillo (Salt River Scorpions).
