Bernalillo mayor announces re-election campaign
BERNALILLO — Bernalillo Mayor Jack Torres announced Monday he will run for a fifth term in 2026.
Torres, 68, who was first elected in 2010, made his intentions known in a press release.
“It is an honor and a privilege to announce my candidacy for re-election as mayor of the town of Bernalillo,” Torres stated. “I have approached this responsibility with total commitment, working every day to build a better Bernalillo for all our residents.”
Torres said he is a proven leader. He cited a “difficult political climate” as one of the reasons residents should consider his record of “fighting for Bernalillo” and “delivering results for all of us.”
Torres said under his leadership, the city has strengthened public safety and built strong finances, as well as “beautiful parks and playgrounds.” That is all on top of the city’s efforts to update ordinances to improve residents’ lives and provide greater support to city staff through “fair compensation and excellent benefits.”
“All of these accomplishments — and many more — were achieved as a team effort and without raising taxes,” Torres stated.
Bernalillo’s municipal election is scheduled for March 3.
