Meet the Rams' new cheerleading coach, Elisa Lopez.

Rio Rancho Public Schools announced the appointment of Elisa Lopez as the new head cheer coach of the Rio Rancho High School cheer program May 29.

A member of the RRHS Class of 2016, Lopez brings a wealth of experience and a distinguished record of success to the program. She was a three-time state cheer champion, twice as an athlete during her high school years and once as an assistant coach. Her cheerleading career extends beyond high school as she has also performed at the collegiate level as a member of the University of New Mexico’s cheer team, showcasing her dedication and passion for the sport.

Lopez, the daughter of former head cheer coach Wendy Lopez, has been an integral part of the RRHS cheerleading program for the past five years, during which she has significantly contributed to the team's outstanding achievements. Under her guidance, the team has ranked in the top 10 nationally and secured a position in the top three teams statewide.

Additionally, Elisa Lopez's expertise and leadership have been honed through her three years of coaching at an all-star cheer gym, further solidifying her reputation as a talented and effective coach.

"We are incredibly fortunate to have coach Elisa Lopez lead our Rams cheer program. Her history of success, deep connection to our school, and commitment to excellence make her the perfect fit for this role," said Todd Resch, executive director of athletics for RRPS. "We look forward to seeing our cheer team thrive under her leadership."
