Rio Rancho PRCS offering sports and fitness in fall 2024 brochure
RIO RANCHO — School has started, but that doesn’t mean fun in the sun must end. On Aug. 5, the Rio Rancho Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department (PRCS) released its Fall 2024 Brochure, an annual publication of the department's offerings of community clubs, events and activities. PRCS also opened registration for those programs at rrnm.gov.
Among the many offerings in the brochure are an emphasis on Aquatic Center programs, an expanded list of gymnastics classes, and a particular focus on the growing sport of pickleball, among a plethora of other mainstays of the Rio Rancho PRCS catalogue like tennis and homeschool physical education classes.
Rio Rancho Aquatic Center
The Aquatic Center is offering numerous water-based classes including Aquacise, a group of water-exercise classes that include Aqua Zumba and Deep Water Fitness. Additionally, swimming lessons will be offered for kids of all ages.
However, it also has plenty to do above ground, from indoor cycling classes to yoga to Circuit City — an intense exercise class consisting of “zipping through stations of different fitness equipment,” according to the PRCS brochure.
Lastly, the Aquatic Center will be offering a hybrid class that combines sound healing through auditory tones and vibrational frequencies with guided meditation and light yoga.
Gymnastics
The Sabana Grande Recreation Center is stepping up to the balance beam and planning an extensive gymnastics program. Classes range from gymnastics preschool to advanced tumbling, with plenty of stops in the middle.
Additionally, Sabana Grande will be offering a Mommy and Me gymnastics class where, “Children will experience a variety of tumbling and gymnastics activities with help from their parent(s),” according to the Fall Brochure.
Pickleball
Pickleball is the fastest-growing sport in America, according to thepickleballplayer.com, and The Hub Community Center is meeting the new demand with plenty of pickleball classes. Intro for Beginners, Pickleball for youth 8-10, Pickleball for youth 10-13 and advanced pickleball are all filling up fast.
Other sports offerings
The Hub, as always, is a major, well, “hub” of activity this fall. Other than extensive pickleball opportunities, The Hub will offer Tae Kwon Do Self Defense with Master Hank, Escrima Martial Arts and free ping pong.
Haynes is a sports-centric facility that is offering multiple sports opportunities this fall. Little Rackets, Pre-Teen Tennis, Youth Tennis, Teen Tennis and Adult Tennis will keep the tennis courts busy. Meanwhile, Kourt Kids — a youth basketball program — will get up and running, with the Adult 5v5 Basketball Winter League right behind.
Sabana Grande Recreation Center isn’t just about gymnastics. It also has a wide array of archery classes for people at various skill levels, regular line dancing events, and it's home to both the Kidszone preschool and Desert Sol Inline Skating & Hockey.
Additionally, Star Heights Recreation Center will be offering programs like High Fitness Aerobics and the popular Little Kickers soccer program. The Rio Rancho Sports Complex will be home to the Rio Rancho Women’s Fitness Club, and the Cabezon Community Center will offer both their own Little Kickers class and a Little Chippers class for any little ones interested in golf.
Homeschool P.E.
PRCS is also focused on offering a full educational experience for every child. That means providing a space and infrastructure for homeschooled kids to get a physical education comparable to their peers in traditional schools.
Haynes will be offering Homeschool P.E. on Mondays and Wednesdays from Aug. 12 to Sept. 14, and on Tuesdays and Thursdays from Oct. 8-31. Sabana Grande will be joining in as well, offering Homeschool and Adult Archery classes from Oct. 1 to Nov.19.
