RIO RANCHO — If you haven't heard, Cleveland High School has a new head coach for the girls track and field team, and his name is Clyde Rachal.

“Building upon the strong foundation laid by previous coaches, I'm committed to fostering a team culture that emphasizes both fierce competition and genuine enjoyment of the sport,” Rachal said.

Rachal is entering his second season with CHS girls track and field, and he hopes to build on the team's promise.

Our focus on attitude and effort will be instrumental in helping our athletes achieve their full potential,” Rachal said.

Since 2017, Rachal has been a teacher and football coach for CHS, serving as a defensive assistant coach. According to the CHS football website, he is also the defensive coordinator for the JV Blue team.

“Beyond athletic success, I aim to develop well-rounded young women who are prepared to make positive contributions to their community," Rachal said. "Last year's sixth-place state finish showcased the incredible talent on our team, and I'm eager to build upon that momentum.”

Some key contributors for the CHS girls track team this year will include triple jumper Sierra Reza, long jumper Karissa Williams and reigning state champion Morgan James, who won in the 300-meter hurdles (45.64) as a sophomore.
