Gladiators get first win on the road
Returner Jeff Carr gets past a tackle to help the offensive side get better field position. Carr finished the game with two returns, 58 return yards, and earned special teams player of the game.
On June 1, the Duke City Gladiators won a nail biter on the road against the Tucson Sugar Skulls. The final: Duke City 21- Tucson 20.
After losing eight straight, the Gladiators got their first win of the season to improve to 1-8 on the year.
Gladiator quarterback Javin Kilgo was the offensive player of the game and finished the game with 192 passing yards and three passing touchdowns. Kilgo’s favorite target through the air was Gourney Sloan, who finished with 76 yards on seven catches and one touchdown.
On the defensive side, Trevon Claybourne came up big with an interception and 5.5 tackles. Claybourne’s night was enough to earn defensive player of the game honors. Joe Powell also notched an interception, and Warren Thomas recorded a sack.
For their upcoming game on June 8, the Gladiators will be on the road again and hope to keep the winning streak alive against the San Antonio Gunslingers, who are 4-5 on the season.
Saturday’s game will start at 5:05 p.m. and can be streamed on the YouTube channel of the Indoor Football League (IFL).
On June 15, the Gladiators will be home at the Rio Rancho Events Center to take on the Vegas Knight Hawks.
