Former Ram wrestler to make MMA debut

Bo Nickal, a former student-athlete who wrestled for Rio Rancho High School, makes his professional MMA debut on June 3.

Nickal, 26, who as an eighth-grader was defeated in the 103-pound weight class championship match in 2010 by Cleveland High’s Paul Mascarenas — who went on to win four state titles — and his family later moved to Allen, Texas.

His father, Jason Nickal, led the Rams to four state team titles in wrestling (2007-10). Bo wrestled at Penn State, winning three Big-10 championships and national titles for the Nittany Lions.
