Frackers team member and Bernalillo High School baseball player Uriel Castro high fives a coach. Castro was recognized as one of the vocal leaders on the team.
Three players from Bernalillo High School helped their club team, The Frackers, clinch a spot in the 2024 Connie Mack World Series (CMWS) July 13.
The Frackers defeated the Farmington Scorpions 10-5 at Ricketts Park to win the City League Tournament, punching their ticket to the CMWS and securing their spot as the host team.
The 2024 CMWS will begin July 26 in Farmington and is one of the most prestigious amateur baseball events in the country.
The players from BHS who will be playing in the CMWS are brothers Alexis Hernandez-Carrillo and Alejandro Hernandez-Carrillo along with Uriel Castro. Castro is also the quarterback for the BHS football team.
The Frackers, coached by Eli Wyatt, are making their first appearance in the CMWS.
“Each one of these ball players contributed greatly to our run as the host team to the 2024 CMWS,” Wyatt said. “They are truly competitors and a joy to have on our team. I can’t wait to see what they do in front of a packed Ricketts Park crowd in the CMWS — but regardless, I am confident each one of them have a bright future of baseball ahead of them. Let’s go Frackers!”
Throughout the summer games, Alexis is their leadoff batter, third baseman and part of the pitching rotation. Alejandro is the starting catcher, a fourth-hole hitter and also contributes as a pitcher. Castro is the starting shortstop, the clutch hitter in the lineup, contributes in the pitching rotation and is one of the vocal leaders on the team.
“Both of the Carillo brothers are some of the most hard-working, dedicated ballplayers I’ve ever been around. They respect the game on and off the field. Castro is a playmaker and a strong presence on the field and in the dugout,” Wyatt said. “Uriel was impressive on the mound and played a big role in firing up our team, especially in tough situations.”
Castro and the Carillo brothers have their sights set on the CMWS and will help BHS make a run towards a state title come high school baseball season.
“Baseball never really ends for the committed athletes. I’m grateful that we can give these kids a chance to expand their opportunities. Besides the three players playing in the Connie Mack World Series, I want to mention that there are several other Bernalillo players playing at all levels and ages this summer throughout Albuquerque and traveling to other cities to play,” Bernalillo baseball head coach Mike Puentes said.
