Cochiti vehicle pile up during dust storm sends nine to hospital
COCHITI — The Cochiti Fire Department confirmed nine people were sent to the hospital from a multiple vehicle pile-up March 18 on NM Highway 16. Sandoval County Fire and Rescue assisted with the incident.
“Units responded and were met with brownout conditions due to the wind/dust storm passing through the area. There was a total of 15 patients on scene,” a release from Cochiti confirmed Friday.
Nine of those patients were transported to the hospital with various conditions. The Cochiti Fire Department as well as Santo Domingo EMS and SCFR transported the patients.
“We wish all the patients a speedy recovery and wish to remind the public to please be safe when driving in hazardous conditions. If you are unable to see, please pull off the roadway as far as you can to avoid these situations from happening,” Cochiti added.
