Wysong Watch: Cleveland standout added to Biletnikoff Watch List
UNM receiver Luke Wysong makes a move on an oncoming Air Force defender.
ALBUQUERQUE — University of New Mexico's star wide receiver — and former Cleveland standout — Luke Wysong has been added to the prestigious Biletnikoff Award Watch List.
Through seven games, Wysong has had 50 catches and 663 receiving yards, which are both career-highs. He also has eight carries for 52 rushing yards and a 79-yard punt return for a touchdown. The Lobo standout is on track to eclipse 1,000 yards, and has a shot at setting single-season records for both receptions (91) and receiving yards (1,315).
Wysong, who is already on the CSC Comeback Player of the Year Watch List, is having a career year and is the first Lobo to be on the Biletnikoff List since Hank Baskett was named a semifinalist in 2005.
Wysong was one of three additions to the list that included Fresno State's wide receiver Mac Delena and Penn State's tight end Tyler Warren.
The Biletnikoff Award annually recognizes college football's most outstanding FBS receiver, which goes beyond wide receiver. Any player, regardless of position (wide receiver, tight end, slot back and running back) who catches a pass is eligible for the award.
Last year's Biletnikoff Award winner was Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., who now plays for the Arizona Cardinals.
Wysong will look to build on his incredible season Oct. 26 when the UNM Lobos (3-4) take on Colorado State Rams (4-3) in Fort Collins, Colorado. Kickoff time is 3 p.m.
