For the first time since they each won state last November, Gianna Rahmer and Charlie Vause were in the same cross country meet. And the results at last Saturday’s University of New Mexico Invitational at the UNM North Golf Course went as you’d expect.

Eldorado freshman Rahmer and Rio Rancho senior Vause ran to victories at the UNM Invite.

Vause was making his debut in the 2024 fall season. His winning time was 15 minutes, 1.29 seconds. It was another 17 seconds to Rams teammate Cody Sullivan (15:18.68) and Academy’s Nicholas Ponte (15:18.70).

Rahmer claimed her third victory of the season, and her first-place time was 17:50.90. Rahmer’s time would have placed her second in the college women’s race, which was won in 17:41.52. Academy’s Anna Hastings (18:31.26) was runner-up to Rahmer in the high school competition.

Rio Rancho’s boys had a stellar meet, scoring 26 meets. Cleveland (75) and Academy (87) were second and third, respectively.

Academy’s girls posted a narrow 45-46 win over rival Los Alamos, with Eldorado (91) third.

The Rio Rancho Jamboree is scheduled this weekend.

Highland, meanwhile, hosted the Albuquerque Public Schools Invite last Friday at Bullhead Park.

Nikko Mihan of La Cueva (16:30.30) won the boys race, followed by Talen Riley of Volcano Vista (16:35.0) and Jorge Garcia of Del Norte (16:40.0).

Volcano Vista (50) was first, followed by Los Lunas (72) and La Cueva (82).

La Cueva went 1-2-3 in the girls race with Giuliana Simone (20:23.19), Kenna Back (20:48.31) and Ruby Buckner Polk (21:30.48).

La Cueva’s 29 points were low, with Volcano Vista (69) and Santa Fe (131) next in the team standings.
