RIO RANCHO — True Value North held quite an event for its ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday. Owners George Meyerson Jr. and Kerian Meyerson went all out and had community members in good spirits.

"When my dad started back in 1989, it was a small store," owner George Meyerson Jr. said. "Everything we continue to do is because of you guys. So, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for supporting us, to get to this point."

Festivities included food and beer catered by Turtle Moutain Brewing, hot dogs, popcorn, giveaways and bucket sales. Those in attendance included Mayor Gregg Hull, the Rio Rancho Chamber of Commerce, City Councilor Bob Tyler and a Santa Claus.

"The Meyerson family really invested in Rio Rancho very early on, and if you know me, I appreciate those that come into our community and invest dollars because they see the value in serving the citizens of Rio Rancho," Hull said.

Also in attendance was two-time Super Bowl champ Alan Branch. The Meyerson family used to be neighbors with Branch, who took a flight to the Albuquerque Sunport just to make the event.

Branch, who won New Mexico Gatorade Player of the Year while with Cibola High School, was a second-team All-American defensive tackle at the University of Michigan and a 2007 second-round draft pick (33rd overall to the Arizona Cardinals).

Branch enjoyed a 10-year career in the NFL. He is most notably remembered for his time as a New England Patriot, during the Brady-Belichick era, where he won a couple of Super Bowls. During Super Bowl LI, Branch recorded half a sack, three tackles and recovered a fumble that helped the Patriots beat the Atlanta Falcons.

The Observer conducted an interview with Branch that will be released next week.

Despite the ribbon already being cut, the festivities are not over.

In fact, Friday was just day one of a three-day celebration for True Value North. The celebration continued Saturday, and from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, they will have plenty of more festivities including free hot dogs, more catered Turtle Mountain, and a visit from New Mexico Runners head coach Steve Famiglietta.
