Storm pin the competition in Las Cruces Invite

LAS CRUCES — The Cleveland boys and girls wrestling teams, along with the Rio Rancho Rams boys and girls wrestling teams, caravanned down south this past weekend for the 57th Las Cruces Harrison Invitational.

Both Storm squads put up big numbers and walked out champions. The boys grabbed first place with 264.5 points, a full 37.5 points higher than the second-place finishers, El Paso Eastwood.

The boys were helped along by Roman Luttrell, who defeated his opponent 18-9 to grab first place in the 121-pound weight class. Israel Guevara followed up his teammate’s performance with a first-place showing of his own, winning a 6-5 decision in the 127-pound class. Wade Wallace rounded out the trio of first-place finishers for the Storm after he defeated his opponent by fall in the fifth minute of his 152-pound match.

All three remain undefeated on the season.

The Rio Rancho boys had a superb showing as well, bolstered by sophomore phenom Eli Archibeque. The boys finished third.

Archibeque won first place in the 107-pound class after defeating El Paso Eastwood’s Hector Ortiz by fall at the 5:25 mark.

On the girls’ side, the Cleveland Storm came out on top again, grabbing first place with 166.5 points.

The undefeated Heaven Guevara remained perfect, winning the 132-pound weight class by TF. The same goes for Eloise Woolsey, who defeated her opponent by TF in the 152-pound class.

The Rams girls finished in 16th (out of 36).
