Spectacular September for fine arts
RIO RANCHO — September is the first full month of school, and sports aren’t the only extracurricular activities that are ramping up. There will be sweet music in the air this month as dance, band, orchestra and choir all have events lined up.
Sept. 14
Fairytale Party @ RRHS | noon-4 p.m.
First up is the Fairytale Party at Rio Rancho High School. Hosted by the Theater Troupe, the Fairytale Party brings together thespians, fairy tale fans and anyone who’s just into having fun. The party will include face painting, crafting, a bouncy house and meet and greets with your kid’s favorite character. This event is free to all, and costumes are encouraged.
Sept. 19
RRHS Advanced Dance Concert @ RRHS | 7 p.m.
Next up is the RRHS Advanced Dance Concert. This will be the first performance of the year for the RRHS Dance Department, and dance instructor Selena Green’s crew is ready to get down. Several different dance classes will be showcased at this event.
Sept. 21
RRPS Elementary Band Bootcamp | Closed
So, this event is NOT OPEN to the public, but it’s included here because it’s too cute not to. According to an email from RRPS executive director of fine arts Dr. Kurt Schmidt, this is a chance for “5th grade students from our elementary band program [to] have an opportunity to work with RRPS band directors in assembling their instruments for the first time and making their first sounds.”
Sept. 23
RRHS/LMS Orchestra Concert @ RRHS | 6 p.m.
An evening of orchestra may be just what the doctor ordered. Showcasing the talents of the RRHS orchestra, under maestro Zachary Bush, as well as the rising skills of the Lincoln Middle School orchestra, this will be the first concert of the year for either school.
Sept. 28
NMMEA Choir S&E @ RRHS | 9 a.m.
Hosted by the New Mexico Music Educators Association, a group that promotes music education through public, private and parochial schools and other educational institutions, this all-day event is the first of the year from the NMMEA.
