RIO RANCHO — The Rio Rancho Middle School Archery Club recently had 10 students qualify for the archery nationals tournament in Sandy, Utah. Now, the RRMS Archery team is asking for help.

The RRMS archery team, founded through the National Archery School Program (NASP), has created a GoFundMe link to help send its students to Utah.

“This is the first year that a Rio Rancho archery team has qualified for nationals. These students are attending a Title I school, meaning that not all of them can afford the costs associated with this trip,” RRMS Archery Club Coach Joshua Garcia Jr. said.

Even though it’s an Olympic event, archery is not officially recognized as a sport in the state of New Mexico and is not one of the sports listed on the New Mexico Activities Association (NMAA) website, making it difficult for teams to find funding.

“This is a great opportunity for them to show their skills in archery, competing against across the western states of America,” Garcia said. “Also, many of these archers are strong in academics and have a 3.0 or higher, making them ‘academic archers.’”

If you would like to help the RRMS archery team get to nationals, donate to its GoFundMe link, gofundme.com/f/archery-nationals-for-rrms.
