RRHS tennis serves up knowledge to the youth
RIO RANCHO- During the week of June 16, the Rio Rancho High School tennis programs joined forces to lead a youth camp at the RRHS tennis courts.
“We had a great turnout this year,” RRHS boys head coach Tom Gutierrez said.
More than 60 kids were in attendance, and campers learned basic skills such as forehand, backhand, serving and more.
“Sixty-one kids came out and learned from our varsity players and coaching staff, so it was a great experience for everyone,” Gutierrez said.
The campers got to work on six different courts, and RRHS girls head coach Uwe Balzis mentioned that there was “a ratio of one coach to 10 players for the most part.”
“We’re hopeful that many of these kids will play high school tennis and become the future of our program,” Gutierrez said.
