RRHS Powder-Puff: Sophomores upset seniors
RIO RANCHO- In honor of homecoming week, Rio Rancho High School held its Powder-Puff football games in Ram Stadium from Oct.2-3.
The Powder-Puff semifinals saw the juniors taking down the freshmen, 28-8, as the sophomores upset the seniors, 27-22.
However, in the finals, the senior players joined the junior team, and beat the sophomores, 28-12.
Powder-Puff games are exhibition flag football matches played by the girls with teams divided by grade level.
"I feel like we executed well. We had a couple short days of practice, but they still understood what we went over, and it showed," junior head coach Brayden Davidson said. Besides coaching, Davidson also plays offensive tackle for the RRHS football team.
Even though the upperclassmen won the Powder-Puff trophy, the highlight of these games had to have been the sophomore's improbable victory in the semifinals over the seniors.
"This has only happened once in our school's history, and we just did it for only the second time," sophomore Victoria Perea said. Perea had a crucial role in the victory and had a multi-touchdown game.

Despite losing in the finals, the Sophomores (class of 2027) look like the team to beat in future Powder-Puff bouts.
"Every practice, the girls were determined, and we all knew what was coming," sophomore head coach and RRHS linebacker Andrew Black said. "I am so proud of these girls."
