ALBUQUERQUE — The Rio Rancho High School girls track and field team had a great couple of days at the 2025 Richard Harper Invite track meet April 25-26 that featured 22 teams; the Rams came in fourth place with 38 points.

“We’re really bringing it this year,” RRHS thrower Sarah Martinez said.

The distance runners earned a first-place finish in the 4x800-meter relay race and scored plenty of points in the other events.

RRHS freshman Mariah Galbraith ran a 5:11.68 in the 1,600-meter run (fifth place) and ran an impressive 11:12.68 in the 3,200-meter run (fourth place). Winning both events was ElDorado runner Gianna Rahmer, who also broke the course record in the 3,200-meter run (10:39.92)

The Rams distance runners also had another ace up their sleeve in the form of Ana Zarate-Aguilar, who came in second place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:21.63.

There wasn’t a team at the meet that dominated the way the RRHS girls dominated in the shot put.

In second and third place were Ram throwers Anni Presser (34 feet), and Sarah Martinez (34 feet).

“It was a pretty great day, and we did our job,” Martinez said.

RRHS senior Aubrey Pino also had a nice day, throwing the javelin 104 feet, 3 inches, which placed her third.

Next on the schedule for the Rams squad is the APS Metro Tournament May 1 at Community Stadium, and in a few weeks it’ll be time for the state championships.

“I already qualified for the discus. We have Anni; she is another state qualifier for shot put, and we are ready for anything,” Martinez said.
