RIO RANCHO — Rio Rancho High School has named Nate Batista as its new head cheer coach.

“RRHS can expect a coach who is all-in — dedicated to building strong, spirited teams that represent Ram Nation with pride,” Batista said.

Batista informed the Observer that he saw a job posting and immediately applied as he has lived in Rio Rancho for the past 10 years.

“When I got the call offering me the position, I was ecstatic — it was definitely a ‘happy dance’ moment. I felt incredibly honored and excited to bring my passion back home to the city I love,” Batista said.

Batista has been coaching cheer and dance for more than 17 years and has worked with athletes that range from preschoolers to the collegiate level.

“My mission is to educate, empower and inspire student-athletes both on and off the mat. I believe in fostering a culture rooted in tradition, teamwork, positivity and pride. I’m here to keep the spirit alive and help our athletes grow as leaders and role models in our school and community,” Batista said.

Batista also currently runs a cheer and dance business called 5678 Spirit, where he offers choreography, clinics and camps across New Mexico.

“Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of building programs that focus not only on athletic development but also on leadership, confidence and school spirit,” Batista said.

The RRHS cheer program will hold tryouts starting May 20, and more information can be found on the school website or by checking on their social media pages.
