ALBUQUERQUE — The Rio Rancho High School track and field team certainly brought some juice to Community Stadium for the 2025 APS Metros Championships, finishing fifth overall with a score of 40 points.

The Rams distance team proved to be the gold standard once again, and winning first place in two events.

In the 800-meter run, senior Cody Sullivan took care of business with a first-place finish in a time of 1:56.90. Right behind Sullivan was sophomore Alejandro Casaus, who recorded a time of 1:57.94.

Then, in the 1,600-meter run, senior Xavier Martinez had himself a day, and recording a 4:30.47 time en route to a top spot on the podium.

Senior Zachai Bradford, who usually competes in sprints and jumping events, found himself in the shot put circle. Despite not having much practice with the shot, Bradford still came in sixth place with a throw of 42 feet.

Sophomore Marcus Briggs also showed off some serious speed in the 100-meter preliminaries, recording a time of 11.03, advancing to the finals.

Another standout was junior sprinter Parker Miller, who bested the Cleveland team during the 4x100 meter relay.

"It feels good, you know, to beat your rivals," Miller said.

Miller, who is also a wide receiver for the Ram football team, was a part of the 2024 RRHS 4x100 meter relay that set the New Mexico record (41.35). Also a part of the team was junior Cooper Carreathers, senior Jace Pitt and senior Gabriel Luna.

The Rio Rancho Rams will take this next week to prepare for the upcoming 2025 track and field district championships on May 10, which will be on their home turf.

"People can expect the best. We're coming for the gold medals, so be ready for that," Miller said.
