Ride the lightning: Wysong & Trujillo electric for UNM

ALBUQUERQUE — The University of New Mexico football team (2-4) was able to notch a big win against Air Force Academy (1-5) Saturday at University Stadium.
Two of the difference-makers during the game were wide receivers Nic Trujillo and Luke Wysong, both Cleveland High School graduates.
Trujillo had a night to remember, playing his best game yet, and scored his first collegiate touchdown on a 18-yard pass from UNM quarterback Devon Dampier.
Trujillo finished the night with four catches, 85 yards and one touchdown. Early in the first quarter, Trujillo made a crazy one-handed catch on a high pass. Trujillo also made his presence known as a willing blocker in the run game.
Luke Wysong continues to be “the dude” on the Lobo offense and received his share of targets. Wysong finished the night with five catches for 53 yards. Wysong also had the play of the night on a 79-yard punt return touchdown.
The Wysong punt return brought some serious electricity to the silver and cherry fanbase and had every fan out of their seat. It also fueled a popular saying amongst fans who said, “Feed Wysong!”
Another former Cleveland graduate earning playing time was David Murphy, who played special teams.
Murphy, a red-shirt sophomore, recently earned a scholarship on July 24 and has eight total tackles on the season, including three solo tackles.
Former Ram Isaiah Chavez — and current UNM backup quarterback — sported a headset all night and helped with offensive play calls and the flow of communication.
Other Rio Rancho athletes on the Lobos roster include receiver Evan Wysong, defensive lineman Joe Maez, running back Josh Perry, and running back Jaylen Morgan.
UNM will look to build on its two-game win streak in a road conference battle against Utah State (1-5) Oct 19. The game can be streamed on Fubo, TruTV, and YouTube TV (with a Max subscription).
Despite a losing record, Utah State has premium weapons in running back Rahsul Faison and wide receiver Jalen Royals. With a win, the Lobos would improve to 2-1 in conference play.
