RIO RANCHO — Registration for one of Rio Rancho’s largest events is up and running. The 20th annual Mayor’s Sunday is Funday is in the works for noon to 4 p.m. Aug. 17 at Haynes Park. Rio Rancho Kiwanis Club and Mayor Gregg Hull are inviting vendors and businesses to register.

“This year’s Mayor’s Sunday is Funday will be the 20th annual event that brings our community together for an afternoon of fun and sharing what’s going on in Rio Rancho,” reads a letter from Hull on the Kiwanis website.

It stated that in 2024, more than 6,400 people took part in the event and that it received the Rio Rancho Readers Favorite Charity Event Award.

This year’s theme is “Go Green Rio Rancho,” and proceeds will benefit the Rio Rancho community.

“You’ll find many exciting events and musical entertainment, along with budget-friendly food, at this fun family-style picnic. We are planning on fun yet safe events and activities,” it reads. “We had over 150 interesting vendor booths in 2024 that were a big part of the fun.”

Haynes Pool, which will be the backdrop to the event, will be open for use on what is expected to be a hot day. In 2024, the temperature rose into the high 90s.

“The many beautiful shade trees will provide a great atmosphere and break from the heat,” the letter notes.

People can also get that heat break inside the community center, where a silent auction will be held.

“Preparations are currently underway for this amazing Mayor’s Sunday is Funday event. Individual and business sponsors have an opportunity to participate and, together, will contribute to the growth and success of this community event,” it reads.

Free and handicap parking will be available at designated parking lots. Free parking and free shuttles will be available at nearby parking areas.
