Ma's Tea House honors veterans at ribbon cutting, car meet
RIO RANCHO — The parking lot in front of and adjacent to Ma’s Tea House in Enchanted Hills was full Nov. 9 for the recently opened boba shop’s Veterans Day car meet.
The owner, Lorenzo Trujillo, also known as Boba Daddy, was excited to have his first car meet at the location.
“We had a great turnout for our first event. I look forward to giving back to the community with some more awesome events,” he said.
He added that the car meet was possible because of veterans.
“That’s why we did this. We appreciate every single thing they do. If it wasn’t for them, we wouldn’t have the freedom to do these things and create these opportunities,” Trujillo said.
All proceeds from the event, including the raffle and sales percentage in the boba shop, went toward veterans. Trujillo says they raised just over $500 and more than 100 cars attended.
For a lot of attendees, there was reason enough to be at the event. One Rio Ranchoan, Nick Herrera, lives just five minutes away from where the event was held.
“Shoutout to Ma’s Tea House for bringing the car community together in northern Rio Rancho. I am looking forward to them bringing more events and business to the plaza in Enchanted Hills,” he said.
Herrera was there with his 1990 Nissan Skyline R32, which was one of the main cars of interest at the meet. Parked adjacent to him was the Skyline R34, which is something of a legendary car in the automotive enthusiast community. Then, there was the newer R35 parked in the same area.
J&S Car Cards made sure to make an appearance as well because owner J{span}eff Schlindwein, a veteran himself, always shows support for veterans.{/span}
Prior to the car meet, Trujillo had his ribbon cutting with Mayor Gregg Hull and Rio Rancho Regional Chamber of Commerce President Jerry Schalow. At that point, few had parked their cars in the respective lots.
“It’s amazing because we already see you working in the community,” Hull said.
Schalow was grateful Trujillo was bringing something “unique” to the area.
“My daughter loves it,” he said.
In addition to the numerous cars, Rio Rancho Police Department was in attendance to not only ensure safety in the parking lot but meet some of the community. Trujillo always tries to include law enforcement in his car meets to make sure people are being safe.
Trujillo also includes other businesses so they can benefit from customers as well. Sprout’s, Turtle Mountain, True Value and others were included for the event.
