'JAB Throw Down' Boxing Bouts held at E3VB in Rio Rancho

RIO RANCHO — More than 60 boxers descended to E3VB New Mexico Center in Rio Rancho to take part in some boxing bouts presented by JAB Clothing and Code of a Champion Boxing Club April 5; the boxing event was dubbed “The JAB Throw Down.”

“JAB Clothing and Code of a Champion are working together to keep hosting boxing events in the local area to keep local boxers busy with competitions like this,” said Steven Padilla, one of the orchestrators of the event and founder of the Code of a Champion Boxing Club.

This is the third boxing event put on at E3VB, and now a boxing fandom is beginning to form right here in the City of Vision.

“I saw that they had some boxing going, and now I have been to all three events. It’s a ton of fun to watch, and a bunch of youths have really trained hard,” fan Dylon Williams said.

The co-main event of the night featured Mayala Castillo (DC Underdogs) vs. Gabriella Leyva (Boxing Inc East) a battle in which Castillo pulled off a win. The main event was Leroy Clark (Team PowerPlant) vs. Samuel Haywood (Grizzly Boxing). The night ended with Clark holding a title belt.

“Every bout was action-packed. Mayala Castillo pulled off a hard-earned victory against Gabriella Leyva in our co-main event. Leroy Clark got the victory against a tough Samuel Haywood in our main event,” Padilla said.

Besides the main event, Bout 11 saw Able Strength Boxing’s Ulysses Chavez rack up a win against Caiden Spencer from Perez Fighting. Able Strength Fitness is based in Rio Rancho.

Team Power Plant also saw another victory in Bout 29b when boxer Josiah Perez bested Matthew Esquivel from Boxing Inc East.

By the end of the night, 32 boxing bouts had passed, and it still wasn’t enough.

“I hope to see them back here soon. There is nothing like live boxing on a Saturday night,” Williams said.
