From a Storm to a Skyhawk: Daniel Steverson to play at Fort Lewis
Cleveland's Daniel Steverson makes a lay up against Volcano Vista.
RIO RANCHO — Cleveland High School’s Daniel Steverson will take his basektball talents to Durango for the next chapter.
After much consideration ‑ Steverson, one of the school’s all-time standoutswho is also the brother of the brother of Storm legend Daniel Steverson‑ officially committed to play basketball at Fort Lewis College.
“It felt like home when I got there,” Steverson said. “Honestly, for me, I want to be in a tight-knit community and be able to embrace my skills.”
Steverson had plenty of other offers on the table, including New Mexico State University and Southern Utah University.
During his last season for the Cleveland Storm, Steverson averaged 27 points per game, eight rebounds per game, five assists per game, two steals per game and two blocks per game.
“Playing Volcano Vista in the Hobbs tournament, that was very fun. Then, playing Santa Fe was always good competition. And then, the rivals, Rio Rancho Rams, it was always good to beat up on them every once in awhile,” Steverson said while reminiscing on his favorite memories as a Storm player.
Steverson led the Storm to a 20-7 record, earned a first-team All District selection and was the Defensive Player of the Year.
In 2025, Steverson played for the Albuquerque Basketball Club Prep team, also known as ABC Prep.
However, the work doesn’t stop for Steverson, who is in the gym preparing for his collegiate debut.
“Obviously, working on my catch-and-shoot and one-dribble pull-ups. At that next level, you got to be more efficient,” Steverson said.
