Michaela’s Muses: Valentine’s Day is a scam
Love shape exercise ball on female woman
It is that time of year again when couples and singles run amok asking for love and getting chocolate.
For me it begs the question: Why does Valentine’s Day have to be the day that you love people?
I have celebrated this day, too, but I don’t play into the typical cliches.
My fiance and I have been together for 4 1/2 years. We love each other and are best friends that really have been married since the start. It is just a formality to get married at this point.
Now, the first time we celebrated we did the usual things that people do on Valentine’s Day. He bought me flowers and chocolate. I didn’t refuse the chocolate because, who am I kidding, it is irresistible.
The flowers, however, I didn’t want because of two reasons. The first being I have an allergy to pollen and flowers make me sneeze. The second is I usually neglect them and they die within a few days.
So what’s the point?
We both got more creative after that. Now, we go for a drive, get some burgers and talk about life in a parking lot somewhere.
Honestly, that is the most romantic thing I could do with him. A few times we ended up talking for hours on end.
In my opinion, that should be a regular occurrence because love doesn’t happen in one night and it certainly doesn’t stay around the whole time. It is a constantly changing thing that needs work and care.
Our long conversations about life keep it going for us.
What keeps it going for you?
