Michaela’s Muses: Resolutions are bogus, goals aren’t

Personally, I don’t believe in New Year’s resolutions. It feels like every year it is the same story. People set a resolution and end up giving up on it by February.

That being said, I think it is important to set goals for yourself. Just don’t use New Year’s as an excuse to do it.

If you want to change something, it should be because you want or need to change, not because some tradition says you have to have a resolution every year. I think ultimately people fail because they think they can do something right away and be successful. Then they find out they can’t just jump in with both feet and be successful.

I know. I have tried it.

This year I am going to take it slow. My goal is to lose some weight. I know it won’t happen overnight, so I am going to start by adjusting my habits little by little every day.

I will let you know next year if I was successful. But I know this resolution is not a one-and-done situation. I have to work at it every day.

My plan is to set a calorie and nutrition count for each day and eventually work up to working out on a regular basis. I find it most difficult to keep the routine going, so in this case I think a checklist is a necessity.

My goals may or may not be the same as most people’s, but I do know we all struggle to keep them in mind.

I started this goal a couple weeks ago. It is not a resolution for me. If you truly want success, you have to work at your goals every day, not just once a year.
