Michaela’s Muses: my pain is not your pain

Published Modified

Recently, I overheard a conversation between two men. They were talking about past injuries and current afflictions.

But what I heard was a continuous, competitive argument between them about who had been through more.

I don’t know why people getting competitive about their pain is such a common occurrence.

I also notice some people look down on others who admit their pain.

Why? I mean, what’s it to you?

I believe people all have their own pain and have to fight their own demons. Just because your pain is more intense doesn’t mean you are any more of a hero for dealing with it.

Also, having pain in general is not an excuse to treat others like dirt.

We all have our own pain to deal with so I ask that people show a little empathy once in a while.

Instead of responding with your own pain to someone’s pain, maybe just listen to them.

When you come back at someone with your own pain, it makes them feel like their pain is insignificant.

I think all pain is valid but the competition of whose pain is worse needs to stop.
