LETTER TO THE EDITOR: The truth about Big Beautiful Bill
I am responding to an opinion piece you published in which the author said Medicaid needs to be reformed.
The Trump Administration’s Big, Beautiful Bill promises not to cut Medicaid. However, the truth is the cuts to Medicaid in the new budget will be $800 billion. This is projected by the Congressional Budget Office (an independent agency) to throw 13.7 million people off their health insurance. These will include many rural hospital closures as well as taking aid away from older people in nursing homes.
The majority of Medicaid recipients already work, so imposing work requirements has largely failed miserably. The bill will also cut almost $300 billion from SNAP, taking food away from millions to include military families with children. This bill is cruel in order to give over $1 trillion in tax cuts to the rich making $500,000 or more. Let’s tell the truth, shall we?
