LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Thank you for recognition of Family Day

Published Modified

Recently, I founded a nonprofit with the mission of establishing a Family Month here in New Mexico. Why? Because New Mexicans are so family oriented that it’s like a hidden super-power that could be harnessed to solve problems … from addiction to poverty and more.

Recently, I had the pleasure of standing up in a memorial for Family Day in the legislature. Sponsored by Rep. Rebecca Dow (R- Dist 38), the memorial was “debated” by members on the floor, all Republican, except one — Rep. Michelle Abeyta (D- Dist. 39), who gave an awe-inspiring description of what family means to the Navajo Nation. She captured the essence of my mission more than any speaker. I was thrilled for family to be honored, and I want to thank the Legislature for taking time to focus on this truly bipartisan movement.
