LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Remember who works for you
Questioning authority?
According to some, lawyers, doctors, accountants, finance people (all who are also often politicians) are some of the "smartest" and best "educated" in society.
The U.S. is pushing $37 trillion in debt. We rank about 50th in lifespan, between 33rd and 45th in infant mortality (we are essentially a third-world nation health wise, and bankrupted by corporate greed and Big Pharma), most cops know next to nothing about laws or the U.S. Constitution, stunningly the same applies to many lawyers and even judges (I had to explain stare decisis to a lawyer once), and increasingly there is a level of corruption from all branches of law enforcement from a rookie cop to some members of the Supreme Court of the United States (for-profit prisons?). Yet these same people demand high salaries, are often filled with hubris and arrogance, and some people "worship" them as demigods. Why?
If these are the "leaders" in society, they are mostly doing a lousy job. If someone challenges you for "questioning authority," do it, proudly, stand your ground. Every single occupation mentioned above works for *you* the taxpayer and/or customer. Demand better and never let any of these "experts" browbeat you into capitulation in advocating for yourself, your family or freedom and democracy.
