LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Our divided nation seems headed for a fall

letters-to-the-editor2

"Home or nation divided will eventually collapse."

Most of us have heard the above quote more than we can recall. However, in my almost 85 years on this planet, I've never witnessed such a state that we currently find ourselves. And please know that I write without supporting a single political party.

History has proven repeatedly that if we bite and attack one another, eventually we will destroy each other. Will we self-destruct? Or will destruction face us from another source? It will eventually happen.

There are myriads of reasons that time has shown for our behavior. One of the more prevalent is that when we become tired and frustrated, with no apparent recourse, we can do strange things, even turning on each other without reason. Many of our homes are divided. Manipulative individuals will seize such timing to take further advantage of us.

Escalating prices on virtually everything without wage increases to accompany in enough to drive most of us to the wall.

In the face of our adversities, we continually hear of multi-million dollar campaign budgets and multi-billion dollar local, state and federal budgets while services and infrastructures continue tot decline. Where is all of the money coming from and going to? Seemingly there are no satisfying answers.

Are we being sadly eroded from within by those we trust most? It's a very sad thing to research online and see how many European and other foreign entities now own many of our once-proudly held companies and financial institutions. And virtually everything we buy or use are products of other countries, including our adversaries. The love of money has a lethal root and may continually erode us.

Regardless of our political preferences, please keep a sound mind. We can differ without being divisive and destructive. A house divided will always fall.

The classical picture of political figures holding babies or shaking heads and hands after church services, etc., is very much alive. Once sacred and trusted places of worship have become fertile ground for attacks of the flock. Once caring pastors and leaders have become nothing more than paid vassals of political parties and social gatherings, leaving the flock to be drained financially and emotionally with virtually no spiritual edification.

As a boy, we were taught, even if not agreeable, to respect the rules, obey the government, etc. Recently one of our former U.S. presidents was tried and convicted of a crime. This has served to divide us even more. A legal system, once honored and respected, but now referred to as corrupt and evil.

Will the house we've known, honored and respected fall or stand? Reflect a little on history.
