LETTER: Schools need to change notification system

Whose idea was it this school year to stop notifying parents of issues concerning their students? That now parents and students need to physically go to the RRPS homepage to learn of issues involving transportation, school issues, etc.? Last year parents were occasionally texted of issues and concerns. Now were expected to be on our phones reviewing the RRPS homepage all day in order to determine if our children are safe? Is the bus going to show up, is there an incident at school? Are we really that stupid in the district to believe parents have that much free time to be continually monitoring the RRPS web page? It's ridiculous to insist parents continually be monitoring your webpage. It's absurd that parents or students have to research the district's webpage in order to ensure student safety at every moment rather than be properly notified of concerns affecting our children. We had text notification last year. Granted, it needed improvement, especially with the guns and stabbing and threats that occurred last year. I certainly don't want to learn my child was killed in a incident by reading about it on your stupid schools web page. I had better be contacted immediately of the incident and what happened!

Please review this insane notification system and fix this worthless crap you deem a notification system. Parents or student shouldn't have to research issues affecting them! You're only setting your self up for serious trouble and lawsuits. Protecting our children dosen't strictly mean locking them up in their classrooms. It also means keeping them and their parents properly informed so that they can take appropriate actions and decisions.
