GUEST COLUMN: Investing in our children, our schools and our future

Published Modified

There comes a time in every thriving community when we must look to the horizon and ask ourselves what makes a growing community the best place to live in New Mexico and a top destination in the Southwest. Here in Rio Rancho, the chamber hears from people every day that the foundation of our city’s success and a source of pride in our community is our schools.

As members of the Rio Rancho Regional Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, we see every day how the strength of our schools fuels our economy, attracts new families, and inspires the next generation of innovators. That is why we proudly endorse the 2025 Rio Rancho Public Schools Bond Initiative. This bond is not merely about new buildings. It is about opportunity, safety, innovation, and the progress that defines our community.

A Brighter Start for Every Child

Rio Rancho has one of the highest percentages of young children in New Mexico without access to pre-K programs. The proposed New Pre K Facility, funded through 17 million dollars locally and up to 24 million in state funding, will ensure that more of our three and four year olds enter kindergarten ready to learn and thrive. This is smart education policy and a powerful foundation for long term economic growth.

Preparing Students for Tomorrow

The planned STEAM Magnet School at Rio Rancho Elementary represents an investment in creativity, curiosity, and career ready skills. By focusing on science, technology, engineering, arts, and math, this new magnet school will strengthen the very industries that drive Rio Rancho’s economy and shape its bright future.

Safety, Sustainability, and Service

Every parent deserves peace of mind knowing their children are learning in safe, modern facilities. This bond supports critical projects such as HVAC and roof repairs, intercom system upgrades, and improved traffic flow for buses and families. It also funds turf and athletic field improvements that promote safety, efficiency, and water conservation.

Rio Rancho is a special place where people work together today to build a better tomorrow. Supporting this bond is an investment in our children, our educators, and our shared future. The Rio Rancho Regional Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors proudly urges voters to vote YES to support the 2025 Rio Rancho Public Schools Bond Initiative and continue building a community where every child can learn, grow, and succeed.
