GUEST COLUMN: Deception from NM Democrats has never been worse

The deceptive political messaging from the progressive left in New Mexico has never been worse.

Unfortunately for New Mexicans, their elected “leaders” are not being truthful. Rather, they are intentionally misleading New Mexicans in order to use the public’s fear as a scapegoat to oppose President Donald Trump. The most recent and relevant example involves the Democrats’ blatant fear-mongering about the One Big Beautiful Bill. Most folks reading this are probably unaware of this deception and may believe the national talking points that our local Democrats have been parroting.

Let us prove our point. Here’s a genuine question for the governor and Democrat leaders in our state:

Can you name a single person in New Mexico who has lost their Medicaid or SNAP benefits as a direct result of the passage of Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill?

We’ll wait.

Yet they cannot answer this question. Here’s why:

1. Not a single person has been denied the benefits they rely on.

2. Answering this question honestly would completely undermine their deceptive messaging.

You see, the governor’s “special” session is entirely political. Instead of working toward solutions New Mexicans actually need, out-of-touch Democrats in our state would rather pick a fight with Trump under false pretenses in order to satisfy their radical base. It’s true, New Mexico is indeed in crisis, but it certainly is not a result of the Big Beautiful Bill. On the contrary, our crisis stems from decades of failed progressive policies that have emboldened criminals, failed our state’s most vulnerable children, and driven doctors out of our state. That’s the real crisis that everyday New Mexicans are concerned about.

Republicans will continue to focus on delivering safer communities, stronger outcomes for our children, and better access to quality health care. Ninety years of Democrat control in New Mexico hasn’t produced these results, which is why they must rely on deception and fear to cling to power.

If the deception from Democrat politicians continues, New Mexico will continue down a dangerous path. Not only will the damaging inaction for our real issues continue and worsen, but our state will also face the harsh consequences of losing a petty political fight with the federal government.

Our message to Democrat officials: Stop the deception, start being real leaders. New Mexicans deserve better.
