ELECTION 2024 candidate column: Tanya Watkins, Sandoval County Clerk
My name is Tanya Watkins, and I’m running for Sandoval County clerk. I am a Christian wife, homeschool mother of three kids, and certified educator, as well as an actively concerned and motivated citizen. Growing up on a family-run ranch in the southwest corner of Hidalgo County, New Mexico, I learned the value of a strong work ethic, gaining the rewards of a hard day’s labors. However, the most important lesson my parents instilled in me was the fact that, when faith in God comes first, everything else follows. My servant’s heart is evident in my willingness to work for the people within my community, as I endeavor to listen well and do what I can to help make it better. As your county clerk, I will adhere to the strong patriotic principles that unite us as Americans; assuredly, I will strive to represent all residents and their needs to the best of my ability.
Notably, I believe that the most important aspects of any elected position revolve around integrity, transparency, accountability, and education. As county clerk, I intend to boost voter participation through increased advertisement, while at the same time restoring faith in fair elections by cleaning up voter rolls, requiring voter ID, and removing absentee ballot drop boxes, all in a collective effort to deter election fraud and ensure that only citizens vote. Additionally, I will lead with open and honest communication, my management skills and meticulous attention to detail being assets benefiting my staff, the commission and constituents alike. Consequently, I will aim to be more accessible and approachable by opening the doors wide and removing all fear-propagating barriers, thereby creating a more welcoming atmosphere within the clerk’s office. Overall, I want to improve the purpose and functions of this office by expanding training and focusing more on civic education and engagement, especially with respect to our children, who embody the future of our great nation.
Remember, early voting has already begun, and Election Day on November 5th is fast-approaching, so go vote, and encourage others to do the same because every voice matters, and every vote counts! Together, we can make a True Impact with Positive Change!
Again, my name is Tanya Watkins, your candidate for Sandoval County clerk. I humbly thank you for your generous support and vote of confidence!
