Consequences to Costco’s partnership with Citibank

Costco is an ethical company and its new CEO has pledged to be a leader by addressing the climate impacts of its business. However, Costco currently has ties to Citibank, an unethical corporate partner.

Costco’s credit card partnership with Citibank has significant environmental consequences, given that Citi has invested a staggering $332 billion in new fossil fuel investments since 2016. This funding has contributed to climate-driven catastrophes worldwide, that are also harming my family and community, such as the heat and drought affecting New Mexico.

Costco is the third-largest retailer in the U.S. so it has a lot of power to persuade Citibank to switch its funding from dirty to clean energy and accelerate efforts to reduce carbon pollution and the impacts of climate change.

I want to ensure that a viable earth is around for my grandchildren and their children. And doing all we can to reduce our carbon footprint is a step in the right direction. Come on, Costco, and do the right thing!
