Wrestlers from over 70 teams descend on Cleveland
Rio Rancho’s Bo Nickal, left, and Cleveland’s Paul Mascarenas compete in a 103-pound match at the 2010 Joe Vivian Classic Wrestling Tournament held at Cibola High.
RIO RANCHO — It’s coming. Can you hear it? The pounding? The cheering? The THUNDER? If not, then unplug your ears because it’s time for the largest wrestling event of the year: the Conflict at Cleveland.
Over 70 teams from across the country will make their way to the Rio Rancho Event Center (RREC) for an all-out battle royale Jan. 3 and 4.
The Conflict at Cleveland is a 64-person bracket with double-eliminations. Each team is allowed up to 15 boy wrestlers and 14 girl wrestlers. Results can be tracked through TrackWrestling.com.
The Cleveland boys are the defending champions of this tournament, having beaten out rival school Volcano Vista in Jan. 2024. The Cleveland girls will be looking to finally make the medal stand, after falling just nine points short in 2024 and grabbed the fourth-place finish.
